SXSW 2011 Day 2: Time Has No Meaning Here

Hey! You may be wondering, “Did SXSW swallow Mike whole?” I’m back today to say no way. The last two days have been a blur of tech, meetups, and parties. I am utilizing my time way more than last year and because of that I haven’t had the to report all of the action. So, bear with me as I try to run down what’s happened. Let’s start with Saturday all quick fire style: Continue reading SXSW 2011 Day 2: Time Has No Meaning Here

SXSW 2011 Day 1: Here We Go

I’m back for another year of SXSW and I forgot just how quickly it takes a toll on the body. Fortunately for me and my girlfriend this year, we didn’t putter into town during the beginning. So we had a great night’s rest and had plenty of time to plot and scheme our way to a better kick off of SXSW. We even had time to kick back a couple of mixers and mingle with like minded folk in the evening.

Dispatch From the Austin Motel

I’m not really reporting, but I’m actually blogging.  Fortunately for me, the line between reporting and blogging is seriously blurred, all in the sacrifice of journalism.  But back to my point.  I’m here in the glorious Austin Motel, gently tapping away and reflecting on a big blur day of travelling.  From some morning claws to feeling Mediterranean, it was both fast and eventful.

The Roads and the Internets

I just wanted to point out real quick how cool it is today that I can ride shotgun in a travelling car and be able to function like I would normally during the day. That’s right, I have my Palm Pre rocking some FreeTether sucking down my unlimited Sprint data plan. All the while, I’m snapping some pics of the Kodak Playsport and uploading them on my HP dm1z. This is the first true taste of technical mobility and I love it. It’s a good thing I’m not driving or else I would be in a ditch by now.

Oh hey, you might be wondering, “Why are you doing this, Mike?” The answer is simple. I’m on the road to Austin and SXSW. I’ll do my darndest to blog and record every item I can on the way. Today so far had work then road. It’s not over yet, though. I’m crashing with a great friend of mine in Wichita tonight then making my way toward Austin tomorrow morning. I, of course, couldn’t make it without my lovely girlfriend so I owe a great deal to her. That said, I look forward to whipping her in some Settlers of Catan later tonight.

That sheep is all MINE!

My SXSW Gimmick Bag

I’m not afraid to say that I like wrestling and I tend to keep up on what’s going on with the squared circle. I’ve even hit up some local independent shows and got to know some professional wrestlers. That’s fine. Please don’t judge. My point is that with every professional wrestler there comes a gimmick bag. A gimmick bag is the gear that wrestle uses to get himself into character. Say Hacksaw Jim Duggan has his 2×4 or Kurt Angle his gold medals.

Well, it just so happens that I have a gimmick bag myself. No, not for the wrestling ring, but for the blogging ring! Some people call it gear bags, but come on, a gimmick bag sounds much more fun. What you see above is what will be lugged around my shoulders for about 10 days. Notice there isn’t everything, but it should be enough for me to be mobile without having to shut one thing down completely. Here’s the list:
